Theatre Bay Area is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving theatre, dance artists and companies throughout the Bay Area. Producing several major events each year, the organization administers several granting and educational programs to advance artists’ careers and craft in meaningful ways. The organization serves more than 300 member theatre companies and 2,900 individual members in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California.
As part of their plan to expand their services, Theatre Bay Area began looking for a new building where they could move their administrative offices and still have space that can be rented out for art classes or meetings. When the process of finding the right building became overwhelming, Community Vision’s real estate consultant, Leiasa Beckham, helped them navigate the real estate process.
Ms. Beckham found a building in the Central Market area of San Francisco with a landlord that appreciated the work of Theatre Bay Area and was willing to negotiate on the lease. “I cannot say enough on how much Leiasa helped us,” says Managing Director, Dana Harrison. “We would not have been able to accomplish what we did without her.”
Theatre Bay Area will be part of what’s been dubbed the “950 Market Street Project”, a run-down stretch of retail buildings on the 900 block of Market St. set to be redeveloped as an arts and education center, with retail and more than 200 housing units. With a minimum amount of renovation needed, the organization plans to open August 1, 2013.
