Neighborhood Thrift began in 2008 with the goal of having a positive economic impact in the south Fresno area. The store provides employment training to low-income individuals, providing a healthy and diverse work environment. Community members are hired to work in the store while they are receiving employment training. The employment training allows individuals personal and professional growth, making themselves more competitive in the work world.
The store is interested in purchasing the building they currently reside in. With that in mind, Community Vision has begun a financial analysis of the organization as part of our Real Estate Readiness program. Until the organization is ready to purchase the building, Community Vision has also set up a community service project with students from the Art and Design and Construction Management programs from Fresno State University. As part of their senior coursework, the students will develop plans that meet building and fire codes along with a construction budget and schedule for a small underutilized space at the store to function as a coffee shop.
Neighborhood Thrift is one of many organizations Community Vision is proud to work with as we expand our services in California’s Central Valley. With their dedication and services to their local community, they strengthen the ties that help a neighborhood thrive.
