The pandemic has been crushing for community-serving small businesses, especially ones that are BIPOC-owned. Launching in 2021, the REAL People’s Fund is a community capital fund investing in an equitable comeback for the East Bay’s Black and Brown neighborhoods.

Founded and democratically-governed by six community organizing groups, this first-of-its-kind fund directly addresses the systemic failures that prevent entrepreneurs in BIPOC communities from accessing the financing their businesses need to thrive. The REAL People’s Fund is part of a broader movement to build a restorative and inclusive economy, and presents an opportunity to invest in a collective vision of equity, care, accessibility, and power-building.
