The Central Valley Empowerment Alliance (CVEA): Strengthening Central California’s Communities

The Central Valley Empowerment Alliance (CVEA) was established as a nonprofit in 2019 by Mari Perez-Ruiz, who grew up in Visalia among a migrant farmworker community. CVEA serves residents who live in Kern, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, and Madera counties by promoting access to affordable housing, quality education, food, and health care, as well as creating civic engagement and leadership development opportunities.

US Supreme Court Overturns Liberty and Bodily Autonomy

Today, the United States Supreme Court took the dreaded step to overrule Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey with its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. The reality is that we now have free states and non-free states when it comes to bodily autonomy. Such an action runs counter to advancing dignity, equal justice and self-determination. Cornerstone values that generations have sought to achieve.

Community Vision and Genesis LA Convene 27 Groups to Address Capital and Capacity Barriers Faced by Community-Based & BIPOC-led Developers

Twenty-seven groups from across California convened in Fresno last week to advance locally-owned & controlled real estate, created by developers of color rooted in local communities across the state.
The convening was part of California Community-Owned Real Estate program (CalCORE), a five-year state-wide initiative led by Community Vision and Genesis LA. CalCORE’s mission is to address barriers to capital and capacity building that many community-based developers and developers of color face.

Announcing CalCORE’s Second Cohort of Small & Emergent Developers

Mayor London Breed Announces $3.3 Million in Funding to Support Community Nonprofit Organizations

San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed, the Office of Economic Workforce Development, Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, San Francisco Arts Commission, and Community Vision Capital & Consulting today announced $3.3 million in awards for nonprofit space acquisition and lease stabilization. The San Francisco Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative (NSI) provides funding to community organizations, including neighborhood arts and cultural institutions, to protect and expand critical services for residents.
